Artist Statement

I make art for the sake of fun and expression. My art is meant to entertain and to provide escape from realism. What inspires me to make art are when it’s based off movies, animals, nature, television, books, cities and toys. My style of art always tends to be happy, dynamic and fluent. My art tends to be made out many different mediums: acrylic-painted, hand-drawn digital, stop-motion, film and photography. My general art philosophy follows like the ones of Bob Ross who was always happy to paint and Pablo Picasso who was always had a bit of meaning in his artwork.

Many themes I have in my work are all about life, fiction, animals, movies and nature. My work aims to portray how they look and what’s it like to be them. A lot of techniques I use are making sure my paintings have lots of shadows and shading so it’ll look more realistic. When I make photos and movies, I use as many dynamic angles and camera tricks that I can to make them look more sharp. My favorite medium to work with is stop motion because it lets me use both of my two favorite hobbies: toys and stop motion. My favorite colors that I tend to use the most in my work are red, black and green because both the brightness and darkness of them together make for good contrast. My favorite art piece that I ever made was a huge sleeping bear cub made out of clay for visual arts class. What I like best about what I do is when I have every creative freedom in the world with no restrictions or limitations.

As I am writing, I am in grade 13 Media Arts. Even though I have already graduated high school and taking a post-secondary course in college, I am doing a victory year in high school and retaking a media arts class so I can further harness my skills. My upcoming culminating for this year will be based off one of my favourite movies that I saw this year; Blade Runner: 2049. I will be attempting to make a recreation model out of the Spinner car from that movie which will probably done in LEGO and I am doing a huge dystopian yellow Vegas background on Adobe Illustrator. I For this project, I will try to explore if I can make an actual diorama with the actual LEGO car standing behind a backdrop with the printed backdrop. If it is too impossible, it will have to be done entirely on Photoshop. I just hope I can get done with all the time I have left.
